You've wanted to do this for a while. Stop dallying and sign up for our last introductory class of the season, Explore Wine. Starts Monday, June 2. Continues over four consecutive Mondays in June. You'll taste more than 25 wines in a small group, led by fun, expert instructor, Ellisa Cooper. Get smart about a subject that will enchant you for a lifetime!
In a tale to rival David and Goliath (at least in the minds of us mortal, wine-loving folk), writer Alice Feiring takes on the omnipotence of famed wine critic Robert Parker in her new memoir, The Battle for Wine and Love: Or How I Saved the World from Parkerization. The book's been called "quirky and endearing," (NY Sun) and "part polemic, part love note to the small winemakers and importers struggling to keep traditional methods alive." (CNN) Come meet Ms. Feiring next Wednesday, June 4. We'll pour tastes of the wines she cherishes.
Spain is all the rage. It boasts the land most planted with vineyards in the world and is the third largest producer of wine. And oh, those wines. From carefree, sunny "rosado," Spanish rosé, to aromatic whites like Albariño. Huge, brooding reds made from Tempranillo grapes. Take our Explore Spanish Wines class Saturday afternoon, June 7 and taste the gamut. A chance to wrap your arms around this rich wine culture.
Mark your calendars for another great Eclectic Salon night at the store: author Jane Fletcher Geniesse comes to read from her latest book, American Priestess, on Tuesday, June 17. Hear the riveting true story of American evangelism gone awry, with a backdrop of missionary zeal and sexual deviance, set in a fabled mansion in 19th-century Jerusalem. Also upcoming: a free cocktail-making workshop on Sunday, June 22. Drop by for tips and tastes, featuring summer drinks made with teas from Tavalon. Iced tea with a twist.

Happenings
Wednesday, June 4, 6 – 8 pm Alice Feiring is on a one-woman crusade against the tyranny of homogenization, wine consultants, and, of course, the 100-point scoring system of a certain all-powerful wine writer. Come meet Alice, taste some of the wines she champions and get her new book,
The Battle for Wine and Love.
Tuesday, June 17, 6 – 8 pm In her new book, American Priestess, Jane Fletcher Geniesse tells the story of the American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem and the woman behind its creation, Anna Spafford. A tale of religious fanaticism, numerous scandals, acts of charity and the founding of the modern Middle East. Jim Lehrer, speaking of Ms. Geniesse's writing, says it "sings with the drama and lilt of a fine novel." Meet this engaging author, listen to stories and taste wines. Free. Reservations not required.
Sunday, June 22, 3 – 6 pm The weather is warming up. Time to concoct clever and refreshing drinks to serve poolside, or on your picnic blanket at the opera in Central Park. The folks at Tavalon, purveyors of all things tea, will be at Bottlerocket, giving lessons on making tea-based cocktails. Tastes will be served. Try their SmarTEAni, a combination of white tea, peppermint, and naturally sweet Korean plums. Forget Lipton. Mix up spiked iced tea for your next party. Free. Reservations not required.
